Our filmmaker reception features world-class tapas (courtesy of chef Mike Odette from the soon-to-open restaurant Sycamore), free drinks (courtesy of Coppola Wines), stunning floral arrangements (from My Secret Garden), and all of our invited filmmakers under one roof. There's no better opportunity to eat great food and get one-on-one conversation with some of the best minds in independent film today. We're only selling 60 tickets for this event, so order soon. CATapult Cinema Showdown Blue Note/Sat. 7:30pm The '50s government film,
This Charming Couple, was shot in and around Columbia, using actors from Stephens and Mizzou. Now we've resurrected it and challenged today's crop of local film folk to remake it, rework it or wreak havoc with it, all to produce a 3-5 minute short. They've had a month to work on their movies, which will premiere during the fest. We've assemble a crack panel of judges, including indie-film guru John Pierson, archival footage maven Rick Prelinger, St. Louis Post-Dispatch critic Harper Barnes, Wellspring Releasing acquisitions exec Vanessa Arteaga and Silverdocs producer Amy King. They'll rant and rave and rate the films and then award over $500 in cash and prizes to the best efforts.
