Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring caused riots at its premiere in 1913, and nearly a century later, the ballet still inflames high passions. At least that's true for the 250 students who signed up to dance in a massive production of The Rite of Spring in Berlin in 2003. This motley crew of teenage performers, under the direction of choreographer Royston Maldoom, received a crash course in dance, discipline, creativity, confidence and courage. Filmmakers Thomas Grube and Enrique Sánchez Lansch captured it all in Rhythm Is It!, a thrilling mix of coming-of-age tale, performance film, and music video. The film wraps with gorgeous footage of the final performance, featuring the music of Simon Rattle's Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Rhythm Is It!, a box office sensation in Germany, will inspire anyone who has dared to step on stage or wished they had. Prepare to stand and cheer.
