Collaborating with friend and former flatmate Richard Linklater, Austin-based cinematographer Lee Daniel has been responsible for the look and feel of some of the defining pop culture milestones of the last 15 years. In Slacker (1991), Dazed and Confused (1993), Before Sunset (1995), and Before Sunrise (2004, Daniel's rough-and-ready guerrilla style injected a vital documentary-style freshness that helped distinguish them from Hollywood product. His latest work, the beautiful and evocative Be Here to Love Me: A Film About Townes Van Zandt (dir. Margaret Brown), will be screened at T/F 2005. In addition, Daniel recently completed photography on a documentary about another Texas musical eccentric, Roky Erickson, that will premiere at South By Southwest in March. At T/F, he will be doing a show-and-tell of excerpts from his work, and answer questions about the nitty gritty of the cinematographer's art.
