Judith Helfand and her filmmaking partner Daniel Gold are no strangers to mining personal experience. When Helfand's parents put blue vinyl siding on her childhood home, it inspired Blue Vinyl which blended detective story, eco-activism, documentary and comedy to warn about the dangers of the PVC industry. An earlier film, A Healthy Baby Girl, was sparked by Helfand's cervical cancer, caused by her mother's ingestion of the synthetic estrogen drug DES. Now the filmmakers are turning their attention to a worldly topic that must top the list of Most Difficult Movies to Make. They're making a "toxic comedy" about global warming, and it's due to be unveiled in early 2006. At T/F, they'll sneak preview clips from the movie-in-the-making and gather feedback from audience members, including other directors.
