This inspiring story, plucked from a country ravaged by a horrific civil war, chronicles a group of musicians from Sierra Leone as they attempt to make a life for themselves at a refugee camp in Guinea. After ten years of war, these survivors bear deep physical and emotional scars, yet find that playing music gives a sense of purpose to their lives and lifts the spirits of those in the camps. Filmed in refugee camps over the course of three years, All Stars follows the band back to their homeland to record an album of their songs. Revealing both life-changing moments and joyous music, this film won the Grand Jury prize at the AFI Fest in Los Angeles, and it provides clear evidence of the healing powers of music. (DW)
