True/False Film Festival | Events & festivities

Events / Festivities

In addition to our stellar collection of films and videos, the True/False Fest will play host to a number of events and parties throughout the weekend. Here's the current line-up, but check back often for updates and new additions. Note: this page lists items in (mostly) alphabetical order. For a chronological list, please see the Schedule page.

Box office: The box office is at Cherry St. Artisan. Hours are noon-10pm on Thursday, March 1; 9am-10pm on Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3; and 10am-5pm on Sunday, March 4.

Sat. & Sun. 10am-2pm
The Bookmobile will be parked on Ninth Street near the Columbia Book Store on Saturday and Sunday, March 3rd and 4th, from 10am to 2pm. Please stop by between projections and keep the conversations flowing. Browse the collection for fiction touted as non-fiction or fiction that's heavily non-fiction. Get a new library card, check out materials, or just step in because it's a giant bus filled with books.
Sunday, Mar. 4, 9:30pm; Missouri Theatre
After the final film (American Shopper) join some of our visiting musicians for a rousing finale to this year's fest in the lobby of the Missouri Theatre. Free!
Sunday, Mar. 4, 6:30pm; Missouri Theatre
Prior to the closing night film American Shopper, join us for the Closing Night reception prepared by Addison's at 6:30pm in the Missouri Theatre lobby. With floral arrangements by My Secret Garden.
Wednesday, Feb. 28, 4pm; Ragtag
Merello's paintings are an expression of her intimate relationship with color, highlighting her mission to bring visual and sensual joy to the viewer. Through this joy, she says, "the viewer can connect to truths that are known but often made false through spoken language." Opening Ragtag Wed., Feb. 28 4-6pm
Saturday, Mar. 3, 4:30pm; Sycamore
Columbia's chance to rub elbows with our visiting directors, producers and stars, and eat a feast prepared by Sycamore, surrounded by beautiful flowers supplied by My Secret Garden.
Saturday, Mar. 3, 6:30pm; Blue Note
A game show in the tradition of "What's My Line" or "Truth or Consequences", Gimme Truth pits filmmaker against filmmaker as they attempt to pick out the facts and fictions of an assortment of locally produced short films. Huge prizes await both the winner of the game show and the best of the short films.
Thursday, Mar. 1, 7:30pm; Artisan
Join some of the best buskers in town for the weekend including pirate troubadour Baby Gramps, whose steel guitar playing, encyclopedic knowledge of roots music, and distinctive voice have made him into a living legend.
Friday, Mar. 2, 5:30pm; 9th St.
Since this is the first year in which T/F has not been in February, we thought we'd celebrate our new month with a fresh tradition: The March March. Join us at Kevin's World across from the Blue Note for a listening party and toast between 4:30 and 5:30, then join in the craziest march that Columbia has seen or heard, climaxing at 5:50 at the Missouri Theatre.
Friday, Mar. 2, 10pm; Illumia
Our infamous opening night Rise Up Party transmogrifies into a multi-media bash at Illumia Gallery on Walnut Street.

Friday, Mar. 2, 6pm; Missouri Theatre
Passholders are invited to Reality Bites at 6pm before the opening night film In the Shadow of the Moon. It's a culinary world tour led by some of Columbia's best chefs, plus champagne, wine, and beer.
Reel Gone Round-Up (w/King Corn)
Sunday, Mar. 4, 9am; Bullpen Cinema
feat. King Corn (with director Aaron Woolf and producer/star Curt Ellis) SNEAK PREVIEW Hop on board the musical buses at 9am Sunday outside Kevin's World and make our annual pilgrimage to the closed down Bull Pen livestock barn. After a locally-produced brunch, a short hoedown and an auction we play King Corn, which tells the story of two young city slickers who move to Iowa to grow an acre of the nation's most powerful crop. The film follows their harvest to its final consumption as corn-fed meat, corn syrup sodas, and processed food.
Saturday, Mar. 3, 9:30pm; Blue Note
Our yearly tradition of mid-festival rock 'n' roll excess returns. Olympia Washington hip hop duo Scream Club, Denver psych rockers Apples in Stereo and Chicago's 31-piece marching band mayhem — Mucca Pazza. Tickets available at the Blue Note or FREE with Gold or Silver Circle passes.
Tuesday, Feb. 27, 5pm; Artisan
In conjunction with our screening of Manufactured Landscapes about Edward Burtynsky, we present the curiously beautiful work of another environmental photographer who documents some of the most contaminated sites in the Midwest.
