Volunteer to Help Bring True/False Back for its 7th Year!
If films are the mind of the Fest, our volunteers are the heart. Not only does True/False exhibit an international array of documentary films and filmmakers, but it also showcases the best of Columbia and its friendly citizenry. Folks from across our city and region band together to create a world-renowned weekend right here in our humble Midwestern utopia. Your investment of time, love and energy is what gives soul to the True/False experience, and we truly couldn't do it without you (nor would we want to).
Want to help us pull off this crazy party again this year? If so, sign up below!
General Volunteers
Give us 15 hours and we'll give you our heartfelt thanks, a volunteer pass and an official volunteer t-shirt. Your pass grants you admission to films via the Q at all festival venues plus free admission to screenings of T/F films at the Ragtag Cinema after the festival (except on Fridays and Saturdays). You'll also be admitted to the volunteers-only party and screening during the Fest.
Juggernaut Volunteers (new for 2010!)
Are you looking for a whirlwind of crazy fun and hard work? Well, we're looking for a group of dedicated, resourceful, and hard-working superstars who are willing to pour at least 40 hours of love into the True/False universe. Hours may be completed before, during, or after the Fest, and you can apply to work in Events, Venues or Production. In addition to the perks of a General Volunteer, you'll also get your own badge of honor (literally) and the ability to pick up tickets at the box office starting on Friday of the festival (thus bypassing the Q). Sound like fun? If so, select Juggernaut on the form and briefly tell us why you want to become one. These positions are somewhat limited, but we'll do our best to place you. Please reference special skills, preferences, or projects that interest you.

- Events: Help create the energetic special events that T/F is known for around the world. Our events are a unique affair and wow even the best of 'em. You'll help set up, break down, and run good times such as Reality Bites, Gimme Truth, the March March, and late-night parties. May involve help with food service and cleaning.
- Venue Operations: Be part of several teams that inhabit festival venues during the weekend and keep them humming right along. You'll take tickets, manage lines, count seats, usher people into the theater, and interact with a public eager to see the best docs around. This is where the action is, with venues abuzz with filmmakers, musicians, and Columbia's finest passholders and attendees.
- Set Up/Break Down: This trusty crew will transform festival venues into True/Falsian movie palaces before the Fest begins, then return them to their humble origins after the Fest ends. Requires heavy lifting, problem solving, and a willingness to get your hands dirty. Must be available on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday before the Fest and Monday after the Fest.
- Venue Design: Does paper mache excite you? Do you enjoy creating something out of practically nothing? You'll assist our designers with physical design projects that will transform venues throughout the Fest into the T/F universe. Must be available during the months leading up to the Fest, and it's helpful if you're handy with tools and a glue gun.
- Merchandise: Help sell the coolest merch this side of the Missouri River. You'll set up merch stations, sell merch, and help distribute it throughout the Fest. You may even get to model one of those fashionable T/F hoodies.
- Box Office: Provide festival-worthy customer service to passholders and ticket buyers at our bustling box office. Must love helping people and answering questions with a smile. Experience in customer service, retail, and/or cash handling is preferred.
- Musician Liaisons: Be part of the team that takes care of Fest musicians, the folks who bring the sonic side of the Fest alive. Must enjoy working with people and be capable of remaining calm under pressure, as well as getting the right band to the right show on time. May also involve working at the musician merch table, specific venues, or at musician-related food events.
