In person: directors Jay Rosenblatt (Darkness of Day) and Frédérique Pollet Rouyer (18 ans)
These five films look at identity, fitting in and making choices about one's path of life. 18 ans (dir. Frédérique Pollet Rouyer, 22 min.): Raised lovingly by her father, Morgane has turned 18 and faces a crossroads. Wagah (dir. Supriyo Sen; 13 min.): Each day, at a checkpoint on the border of India and Pakistan, thousands of spectators proclaim their national identity as they watch their soldiers perform the flag ceremony. Herd (dir. Ken Wardrop; 4 min.): a brief portrait of a deer who thinks he's a cow. Notes on the Other (Sergio Oksman; Spain, 13 min): Who was Hemingway? This carefully constructed piece looks back on Hemingway's creation of the adventurous writer, inspired by an experience in Pamplona. Darkness of Day (dir. Jay Rosenblatt; 26 min.): Using found footage, Rosenblatt weaves a stark yet poignant look at people's choices to end their life. (KC)
