In person: directors Andy Wolff and Stefanie Brockhaus
Sneak preview. Lucky and Bongani are brothers with a made-for-the-movies charm living on the "edge of the edge of the world" in Cape Town, South Africa. But when they are charged with the murder of a man who appeared mysteriously at Lucky's shack late one night, it appears that they'll topple over the brink. Tagging along, we follow the brothers from initial arraignment to inside the prison to the countryside where they are initiated through a native Xhosan ritual. Making not one wrong move, this jaw-dropping film is marked by an earthy, hard-earned poeticism, a piercing sense of place and indelible characters. While the narrative exerts a lock on the viewer, it's the full access to the brothers' unfolding story that is nothing short of miraculous. (PS)
