Utopia in Four Movements

The hopeful notion called utopia — the idea that the new day dawning would be better than the one that came before — collided headfirst with the 20th century's genocides, wars and failed social experiments. Join filmmaker Sam Green (The Weather Underground) and musician Dave Cerf as they reincarnate the optimistic spirit of a bygone era with their live performance, a guided tour of the utopian impulse. The performance includes short films about the universal language Esperanto, the surprising story of shopping malls, a visit with an exiled radical and a look at a radical movement that gives dignified burials to human remains. Sifting through history, Green and Cerf point to a more noble future for us all. (PS)
