  1. Where does this fest take place?

Regular True/False films will screen at the following downtown venues: the Missouri Theatre, the Blue Note, Ragtag, and the Forrest Theater (at the Tiger Hotel), as well as at the following venues on the campus of Stephens College: Windsor Auditorium, the Den (Charters Auditorium), and the Firestone Baars Chapel. The Weird Wake Up will take place at the Odd Fellows Temple in downtown. For complete venue information, please see our venues page.

  2. How much for a ticket to one film?

All regular films are $8 at the box office or $10 at the door/Q. 10 minutes prior to show time, any remaining tickets will be sold at the door of the venue (See #6 below). All panel discussions are free.

  3. When can I buy advance tickets?

Simple, Lux, Silver Circle, and Super Circle Passes are available for online purchase on this website. (See #7-10 for specific pass details.) Passholders will be able to reserve tickets prior to the start of the festival. Reservations will begin as follows:

    • Super Circle: Beginning at 6pm on Sunday, Feb. 7.
    • Silver Circle: Beginning at 6pm on Monday, Feb. 8.
    • Lux: Beginning at 6pm on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
    • Simple: Beginning at 6pm on Friday, Feb. 12.

All pass sales will end at 6pm on Tuesday, Feb. 17, or while supplies last. Pre-fest ticket reservations for passholders will end at 6pm on Friday, Feb. 19.

All passes and reserved tickets must be picked up at our Box Office at 100 S. Ninth St. They will be available for pick-up starting at 5pm on Wednesday, Feb. 24. Box Office sales (passes and individual tickets) begin at noon on Thursday, Feb. 25.

  4. Where is the True/False Box Office?

The T/F Box Office is located at 100 S. Ninth St., at the southeast corner of Ninth and Cherry Streets.

  5. When is the True/False Box Office open?

    • Wednesday, Feb. 24: 5pm - 8pm (passholder pick up only)
    • Thursday, Feb. 25: 9am - 10pm; (9am - 12pm passholder pick up only)
    • Friday, Feb. 26: 9am - 10 pm
    • Saturday, Feb. 27: 9am - 10pm
    • Sunday, Feb. 28: 9am - 5pm
  6. Can I buy tickets at the door for a film?

Yes, but only 10 minutes before start time. By waiting to buy tickets at the door of the venue, you run the risk of the film being NRT (No Reserve Tickets remaining). The best way to ensure that you have a ticket for a film that you want to see is to buy your ticket(s) from the Box Office ahead of time. Tickets for all films and events will be sold there up until 15 minutes before start time. Following that, all remaining tickets will go on sale at the door of the venue 10 minutes prior to the film's start time.

  7. What about passes?

A Simple Pass is $60 and grants one person admission to any festival film Friday, Feb. 26 through Sunday, Feb. 28. Your Simple Pass will also get you into the Friday night @ction Party for $10 at the door. Field trips and parties — as well as films on Thursday, Feb. 26 — are not included, and tickets for these events must be purchased separately at the Box Office beginning at noon on Thursday, Feb. 25.

A Lux Pass is $145 and grants one person admission to any festival film Thursday, Feb. 25 through Sunday, Feb. 28, field trips (but a reservation is still needed), and parties (except the Filmmaker Fete), as well as the opportunity to reserve tickets online before Simple passholders.

A Silver Circle Pass is $300. Being part of the Silver Circle grants all the privileges of a Lux pass plus admission to the Filmmaker Fete and one of our coveted festival goodie bags. Silver Circle passholders also have preferred access to films at the Blue Note, Windsor, and Missouri Theatre, as well as the opportunity to reserve tickets online before Lux and Simple passholders.

A Super Circle Pass is $500 and is our deluxe patron pass, as well as the best way to support the future of the festival. In addition to all of the perks of a Silver Circle pass, member of the Super Circle also receive one hour of one-on-one consultation with one of the festival directors (Paul Sturtz or David Wilson), first crack at online ticket reservations, and $200 of the purchase price is deductible as a charitable donation to the festival.

  8. I bought a pass. How do I get it?

All passes (as well as reserved tickets) must be picked up at the T/F Box Office. (See #5 above for Box Office schedule.)

  9. True or False? If I buy a pass off the website, I could still not be able to get tickets for all of the films that I want?

True. However, when you buy a Simple, Lux, Silver Circle, or Super Circle pass off of the website, you are able to reserve tickets prior to the start of the festival. From Feb. 7 - 19*, ticket reservations can be made online via this site. Ticket reservations will be honored in the order in which they are received. Your reserve tickets will be waiting for you, along with your pass, at the Box Office.

If there is a film you did not get a ticket for but would like to attend, you can always go to the venue and try your luck with the Q system (see #14). Your pass will get you in, space permitting.

Tickets held for a passholder must be picked up at least 15 minutes before the film's starting time.

*See #3 for reservation schedule by pass type.

  10. OK, I sprung for the Super or Silver Circle pass. How does this "walk-up" privilege work?

If you're in the Super or Silver Circle you can walk up to any screening at the Blue Note, Windsor, and the Missouri Theatre. As long as you're more than 15 minutes early, you'll get a seat. While we encourage you to reserve tickets online and/or pick them up at the box office, your Super or Silver Circle pass gets you off the hook if you forget. At our smaller venues (the Forrest Theater, Ragtag, Den, and Chapel), things work a bit differently. Seats at these venues will not be held for Super or Silver Circle passholders. To be guaranteed a seat, you MUST reserve tickets or get them from the box office.

Circle members will be given preferred Q seating at the Forrest, Ragtag, Den, and Chapel venues. So, if you don't have a ticket, just show up at least 10 minutes early and find the Circle waiting area (hint: look for a big silver circle). As long as there are seats available, you'll be let in ahead of the rest of the Q.

  11. How about the opening night film? When can I buy tickets for that?

In 2010 there is no one single opening night film. Tickets to all Friday night films are regular price. If you want to attend the @ction party that night, you'll need to buy some sort of pass.

  12. What about this mysterious Filmmaker Fete?

Saturday night we're throwing a reception at one of our favorite downtown restaurants, Sycamore, and one of our favorite art galleries, the P.S. Gallery. Almost all of our visiting filmmakers will be there, and it will offer festival attendees a chance to meet the filmmakers in an intimate setting while feasting on delicious food (prepared by chef Mike Odette) with an open bar. If you want a Fete ticket, we recommend getting your Super or Silver Circle pass early.

  13. What does "NRT" mean? Why don't you just say "Sold Out!"?

NRT stands for "No Reserve Tickets" and it means that all the tickets for a film have been purchased or reserved by passholders. When this happens, there are no longer tickets available from the Box Office for a screening. We don't say "SOLD OUT!" because there is still a good chance you can get in at the door by using the Q system. Inevitably, some of the people who reserved tickets don't show up, and we make those seats available for patrons at the door with our ingenious "Q" system. (See #14 below.)

  14. What's the "Q" I keep hearing about?

The "Q" is your chance to get in at the door of a movie for which you were unable to reserve/purchase a ticket. Beginning 60 minutes (one hour!) prior to the start of a film, eager movie-goers can get a "Q" number. With your "Q" number in hand, you can wander about or grab a cup of coffee instead of being bound to a line. (In fact, for crowd management purposes, we encourage you to wander! Your number marks your place in line, regardless of how long someone else has been standing in front of the venue.) Then, 10 minutes prior to the start of the film, you can resume your place in the queue (get it?) and the House Manager will release available seats 5 minutes prior to the start of the film. If there are 15 seats left, 1 through 15 in the "Q" will get in, etc. Other than the Super/Silver Circle, there is no passholder priority in the Q line. Volunteers, ticket buyers, passholders... all are equal in the eyes of the Q.

For the record, there's never been a showing at the festival where nobody got in at the door. So, it's worth the effort if you really want to see a film. And rumor has it that the "Q" is a fun place to be — mingling with fellow festival goers and contributing to the spirit of the Fest.

  15. I'm still confused...

Ticketing and box office details are probably the most complex aspect of organizing any film festival (far harder than, say, contacting filmmakers). We've done our best to make this relatively straightforward and understandable, but we know it may still seem a little murky. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email us (tickets@truefalse.org) or call our hotline (573-442-TRUE). We'll get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks!
