Dear Columbia,

"Thank you" is a bit of a cliché, don't you think? What we shared last weekend was extraordinary, and so just saying thanks seems a little flat for the richness of what we're feeling. The True/False Film Festival didn't spring from a vacuum — or our little office in T/F Towers — it emerged from hundreds and thousands of people who have given of themselves to make our town a better, more attractive, friendlier place. T/F shared this collective desire to make downtown Columbia more of a destination and to spotlight our shared bounty as a community. [more...]

The liveliest new nonfiction films in the world are coming to downtown Columbia — some fresh from Sundance, Toronto and other festivals, others appearing mysteriously before their official premieres elsewhere. The True/False Film Festival returns for our third edition March 1-4, 2007 at five venues: the Missouri Theatre, the Blue Note, the Ragtag Cinema, the Cherry Street Artisan, and the Forrest Theater at the Tiger Ballroom. T/F is hosting a screening of The Refugee All Stars October 26 in Evanston, Illinois at the Third Coast International Audio Festival with co-director Banker White in attendance. Third Coast is the preeminent audio fest in the world. The Refugee All Stars is an inspiring story about a group of musicians from Sierra Leone attempting to make a life for themselves at a refugee camp in Guinea. [Link]

In our constant search for new outlets for indie docmakers, True/False has paired up with Current.tv to search for new short nonfiction films to be aired on Current. Current is a new cable network that bills itself as the "TV network created by the people who watch it." We like their committment to providing a home for short docs, and we like their scrappy independent spirit. You can learn a lot more about what Current is looking for and how to make your own TV at the Tapping Into Current.tv brunch on Sunday.

• #39 TBA: Amongst White Clouds — Sunday, Feb. 26, 4:30pm; Forrest Theater (Tiger Hotel)
• #40 TBA: The Last Supper/Someday My Prince Will Come (double feature) — Sunday, Feb. 26, 7pm; Ragtag Cinema

Tickets for these Sunday TBA shows can be picked up by passholders starting at 10am Thursday at T/F's Cherry St. Artisan box office. Non-passholders will be able to purchase tickets for these shows starting at noon Thursday at the Cherry St. Artisan box office, 9th & Cherry.

Also added are some bonus shows on Monday at Ragtag:

• 2005 Oscar-nominated Doc Shorts — Monday, Feb. 27, 5:30pm; Ragtag Cinema
• Just to Get a Rep — Monday, Feb. 27, 9:45pm; Ragtag Cinema

These Monday shows at Ragtag are free to Silver Circle and Gold passholders, and can be picked up starting at 10am Thursday at T/F's Cherry St. Artisan box office. All other festival-goers can purchase these starting at noon Thursday at the Cherry St. Artisan box office, 9th & Cherry.

As with all T/F shows, don't forget that if shows become NRT (No Reserve Tickets remaining), you can still go up to the venue 30 minutes before showtime and get a Q which will hold your space "in line" for when seats become available a few minutes before showtime.

Pass sales have closed until the Box Office opens at 12 pm, Thursday, February 23 at the Cherry St. Artisan. You may still purchase opening night and closing night tickets at the Missouri Theatre.
